In fact when she hears what really happened she bites the skin inside her cheek. All these years Lily had led herself to believe that her mother was going to bring her with her, which was somewhat correct. However Lily had no knowledge of her mother\u2019s original trip to August\u2019s house without. All Lily could remember was that her mother was going to leave T. Ray and take Lily with her. Furthermore, when lily first hears about the true story of her mother leaving she becomes filled with anger and says, \u201cWhy didn\u2019t she bring me?\u201d and \u201cI hate her\u201d (Kidd 251). As the story progresses and Lily is told, \u201cFinally she went back to Sylvan to get you,\u201d Lily becomes a little more understanding. However I do not feel under any circumstances that Deborah was a bad mother or a bad person. This is because she did what she had to do and that was to leave her family. When she finally recovered from her depression she decided to go back to get Lily which was an extremely brave thing do to. I also disagree that Lily\u2019s image of her mom was not unrealistic because every girl would picture their mom bringing them with them when they leave. No girl could see there mother leaving them behind. August was anxiously waiting for twenty minutes when she realized that something was terribly wrong and they should go look for her. At this point she says to them \u201cThat\u2019s it. Let\u2019s go get her\u201d (Kidd 189). I agree that August is to blame for the death of May because she should have known better then to let her go off by herself. At the beginning of chapter 8, there was a quote that would soon relate to the plot of the story. The author included this quote, \u201cHoneybees depend not only on the physical contact with the colony, but also require its social companionship and support. Isolate a honeybee from her sisters and she will soon die. \u2013The Queen Must Die: And Other Affairs of Bees and Men\u201d (Kidd 136). Though a few chapters before, we find out later in the book that May commits suicide. Though this tragic event still occurred, her sister \u2018bees\u2019 took care of her the best they could to keep her alive and well. However, once \u2018isolated\u2019, when they did not tell her about Zach being in jail, she soon died, just as described in this quote.
