This quote relates to Lily\u2019s life in many ways. Obviously, since she was little, her \u201cqueen bee\u201d has been missing, and ever since her world has been turned upside-down. Though she did not always show it, there was always sadness inside her; a piece of her was missing. However, I believe that the \u201cnew queen bee\u201d that was introduced was a combination of August, May, and June. They all gave her a new life and totally erased the past and what had previously happened. Additionally, one of the first quotes in the book relates to this idea of queenlessness. The author writes, \u201cThe Queen, for her part, if the unifying force of the community; if she is removed from the hive, the workers very quickly sense her absence. After a few hours, or even less, they show unmistakable signs of queenlessness. \u2013Man and Insects\u201d (Kidd 1). Here, you can see how Lily thinks that the mouse bones and her mother\u2019s belongings are somehow connected. Based on her other superstitious assumptions, it is likely that this in fact could be one of them. I believe that the mouse bones make her feel connected to her mother. Also, all this time she has been looking for a sign from her mother that she is in the right place and on the right path in her life.
